Wednesday, February, 29th, Lady Gaga launched her “Born this Way” foundation at Harvard University. Her main goal of this foundation is to help end bullying since she was victim at a very young age herself. She said she wants to “challenge meanness and cruelty by inspiring young people to create a support system in their respective communities.” Gaga says not only does she hope that this foundation helps stop bullying but also to empower the youth to speak up and be brave! In front of over a 1,000 people crowd she said “When you see someone being negative to somebody else, it’s OK to intervene and stand up for someone that needs it … I don’t believe that one person can change the world. I believe that humankind, as a whole, can change the world.” When she was asked why she feels that she will be the one to help enact a huge challenge in today’s world she laughed, and with this reply “I guess I sort of have this feeling that if I can make a song called ‘Just Dance’ really big all over the world, I might be able to make a song that’s, you know, ‘Just Be Nice!’” Gaga is very confident in her acts towards this cause, she feels as if she can related to kids with this problem very well since things like this happened so frequently to her in her childhood and there was nothing like this around to help stop it. With experience, sympathy, and work, that this will be one of the most successful bullying prevention around. On hand with her is Oprah Winfrey. Oprah is very connected in today’s world and hopes she can help reach out to the kids that are bullied and their bullies. Oprah has also had her fair share of difficulties, growing up as a poor child; she wants to help kids in her situation that are also underneath bulling stress. Gaga decided to elect her mother as the foundation’s president.
